Regulation 1169/2011

Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 & European Food Safety Authority

Reference Intakes, as outlined in Regulation (EU) 1169/2011, are a fundamental aspect of European food legislation designed to ensure the transparency and accuracy of nutritional information provided to consumers. This regulation, often referred to as the Food Information Regulation, sets out clear rules for the labeling and presentation of food products, including specific requirements for nutrient content information.
In tandem with this framework, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) plays a crucial role in establishing dietary reference values, which provide scientific guidance on the intake of essential nutrients for different population groups.
Together, Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 and the EFSA's dietary reference values assessments are pivotal in shaping public health and consumer choices by ensuring that individuals have access to accurate and comprehensive information about the nutritional content of the foods they consume.
As a manufacturer we must comply with these reference intakes. The Population Reference Intake (RI) sets a benchmark that is expected to cover the needs of nearly all healthy individuals in a given population.
